Bring your one page or less artist statement to this workshop and have it read by and receive feedback from local curators, gallerists, writers, and editors. Twelve minutes with each consultant and its time to move on. Couples therapy meets speed dating meets tough love--all to make your statement the apple of your eye and not the ol’ ball and chain.

We are going to relive an episode of the Real World Philadelphia through social media. For one night participants will be transformed into real people playing characters playing themselves playing avatars playing themselves. How prodigious is your media? Let me count the platforms I can say “I love you” or “Let’s do shots.” A public performance on the Newsfeed and in the Twittersphere. Confessional status updates, party pic recreation instagrams, wall post arguments, and vine vomits. “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely user profiles.”

Age Drag

Queer theorist and researcher, Mary Zaborskis will be leading a free-form discussion that uses queer theory and childhood studies to investigate children’s agency in reality television. Specifically, she will utilize passages from Judith Butler’s Gender Trouble and excerpts from the television show, Toddler’s and Tiaras, to ask how these child stars are participants in what Zaborskis. refers to as “age drag.” The evening will have food, conversation, television clips, and a slide presentation. Zaborskis. is a P.H.D. candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research studies have led her in the directions of queer theory, gender and sexuality studies, twentieth century and contemporary American literature, and childhood studies.

A Experimental Figure Drawing Course

This figure drawing class/workshop will be a mixture of traditional and experimental drawing exercise. There will be one model and there will be sound. There will be spooky sounds. There will be evil about. Participants will mostly draw individually, perhaps somewhat collaboratively, but also partially theoretically. NOTE: There will be a nude model present during this course.

Why can't we all be poets? With "roses are red, violets are blue" we want to know, how about you? Join us for an uninhibited evening where even the most dormant poetic voice will blossom like a morning dew covered red-ish flower. The evening will commence with a brief introduction to the project, a group activity, a snack session, and a discussion to follow. Paper, pencils, and pens will be provided. Bringing one object big or small that you find poetic will be REQUIRED.

If You Leave: A Panel Discussion on Artist Retention in Philadelphia

This class will investigate through a lateral discussion the promise and limitations of being an artist in Philadelphia. Initiated through a live video panel conversation with former residents, topics will include: limitations of the art economy and employment in the Philadelphia creative culture industry, DIY networks and criticality, shadow-play with New York and metropolitan insecurities, the burden of bureaucratic regulations, and the transitory nature of living in a city in the midst of growing pains.
